GLO Fireside Chat: “Habits of High-Performing Leaders”
This past weekend I enjoyed hosting the GLO Fireside Chat: “Habits of High-Performing Leaders” with two CEOs Teddy Liaw and Micah Niebauer. The event was put together by GLO Berkeley Chapter Project Lead Kate Khatseyeva and teammates Nolan Milani and Karan Shah. As advisor for Kate’s team it was exciting to see our efforts unfold into a wonderful community event.
The first of a series of three fireside chats including high-performing professionals and GLO founder Teddy Liaw, focused on the habits of high performing leaders. Pulling from their vast experiences in executive leadership and the special forces, Teddy and Micah put together a list of 12 Habits of High-Performing Leaders.
The Core Three Habits
- Wake up early.
- Exercise consistently.
- Write down and set goals.
The Nine Habits
- Have a why and live in the future.
- Schedule time to think and reflect daily.
- Start each day making a list of key tasks that must be completed.
- Be comfortable being uncomfortable.
- Surround yourself with people that challenge you.
- Live a life of service.
- Always take the next step.
- Define yourself by your present and future, not your past.
- Be a dreamer. Have a vision.
Serving as moderator of this event placed me outside my comfort zone. Before the event I was nervous to be responsible for managing the flow of communication and ideas between two executive leaders. Taking some time to look back on my previous experiences in event management, I knew I had the ability to fulfill my role. I made an outline of the topics the team and I wanted to address and acknowledged that life will always have a little bit of uncertainty.
Looking back it was a wonderful growth experience. I learned how to be a better communicator, public speaker, and moderator. Taking on small challenges like this compounds over time, and the results are limitless. I encourage each of you to select one of the above habits and implement it during the next week. Reflect on the experience and provide context in the comment section below!
The next GLO Fireside Chat is scheduled for Saturday, August 8th at 10 AM PST / 1 PM EST / 1 AM Taiwan. To stay up to date and information on other events make sure to follow Global Leadership Organization on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn!
